There’s no need for SeaWorld to decorate for Halloween—the abusement park is already a horror show for the animals imprisoned there. That’s why PETA scared off several SeaWorld sponsors, dealing a blow to the aquatic animal hellhole’s event.

Why PETA Frightened Off SeaWorld’s Howl-O-Sprint 5K Sponsors

SeaWorld’s “Howl-O-Sprint” encourages runners to dress in costumes as they take a “thrilling and chilling journey through the grounds of SeaWorld San Diego,” passing by animals like Corky, the longest-held captive orca in the world.

The last Northern Resident orca in captivity, Corky, has spent most of her life separated from her family and culture. While her free pod members band together to chase salmon, explore the vast ocean, and, in the summer, visit the beaches near Vancouver Island to rub their bodies over pebbles on the shoreline, Corky’s life consists of forced performances and floating listlessly in a tiny tank.

Last year, Disguise Costumes was listed as a sponsor for the Howl-O-Sprint event, but after hearing from PETA and learning about the many animals who have suffered and died there, they did not return. Another sponsor, BODYARMOR, initially did return, but after receiving 50,747 messages from PETA supporters, it was removed from the list of sponsors on SeaWorld’s website.

Urge Road Runner Sports to Stop Sponsoring SeaWorld

To help fund its abusive operations and draw guests in, the company holds events like the Howl-O-Sprint 5K Run in San Diego, for which Road Runner Sports is the sole sponsor. Please urge the company not to fund SeaWorld’s cruelty.

Instead of participating in runs that fund animal-abusing industries, join the PETA Pack to find out about events like the Run for Corky’s Freedom.
